and more
We are proud to welcome back world-renowned violinist Akiko Suwanai in an all-Russian programme. Praised by The Times for her “noble playing,” Akiko Suwanai, laureate prize-winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition, will perform Prokofiev's first violin concerto, a brilliant work filled with lush, lyrical romanticism and strikingly original harmonies. Directed by our new Resident Conductor, Lio Kuokman, the programme also features the highly expressive and colourful music Prokofiev wrote for the greatest tragic love story ever told, Romeo and Juliet.
Akiko Suwanai is invited via a special collaboration between the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Premiere Performances. Suwanai will be performing with the Premiere Performances on 18 Jan in “Akiko Suwanai & Friends: Dvořák Piano Quintet”. Enjoy 10% off when purchasing tickets to both concerts in the same transaction at URBTIX.
Change of Conductor & ProgrammeIn view of the latest situation of COVID-19, and uncertainties relating to such matters as global travel and in-bound quarantine measures, Maestro Jaap van Zweden has had to withdraw from the advertised performances of "JAAP’s Beethoven 3 | Akiko Suwanai".
We are grateful that conductor Lio Kuokman has kindly agreed to step in. The artist remains unchanged. Along with discussions with the conductor and artist, "JAAP’s Beethoven 3 | Akiko Suwanai" is retitled to "Akiko Suwanai Plays Prokofiev" and the updated programme is listed below.
